Recording the albums with Gabrielle Roth for Raven was one of the most creative and inspiring experiences I had as a bass player and I feel that it made me grow as a musician and opened my eyes to new possibilities. 

Catherine Russell (Vocals)

Catherine Russell is a native New Yorker, born with an enviable musical pedigree. Her father, the late Luis Russell, was born in Panama and moved to New Orleans and then New York City, becoming a pioneering pianist/bandleader, and Louis Armstrong’s long-time musical director. Her mother, Carline Ray, is an outstanding bassist and vocalist and holder of advanced degrees from Juilliard and Manhattan School of Music. 

Gordy Ryan (Percussion)

In my experience, a beautiful aspect of recording with Gabrielle Roth and the Mirrors was that the music originated in the dance. Robert would take notes on the grooves that were improvised when we accompanied Gabrielle as she danced, weaving her spell in workshops on two continents. We’d get together back in N.Y.C. and he’d say- for example- G, remember that rhythm you played for Flowing in Montreal?

Greetings, I am Sanga of the Valley, born in Trinidad & Tobago by way of Africa. I'm a percussionist, healer, composer, teacher, and soul survivor. For over 25 years, I've worked with Babatunde Olatunji and Drums of Passion.

In 1989, I started working with Raven Recording. I love working with Gabrielle, Jonathan and Robert. Gabrielle grounds the feet, Robert keeps the beat, and Jonathan keeps it all together.
